Rabbi David Bar-Hayim's pre-Rosh HaShanah interview in which he opposes the annual descent of Jews to the town of Uman in the Ukraine has made waves, provoking positive and negative emotions among those reacting to the rabbi's addressing one of the golden calves of our time. Despite the claims of Christians and post-modernists, mercy is not Hashem's main goal. Judaism is based on perfecting the world, and toward that end sometimes nastiness and even cruelty are permissible or necessary:

* Brit milah is necessary to create a connection with Hashem.

* Jews need not be vegetarians for fear of harming animals.

* Even killing humans is sometimes permissible.
