JERUSALEM,
ISRAEL, 30 Kislev 5767 (December 22, 2006) - Machon Shilo and Machon
HaYerushalmi are hosting a symposium on the topic of THE RELEVANCE OF
THE TALMUD YERUSHALMI IN OUR DAY.
Machon HaYerushalmi, formerly based
at the Jericho Yeshiva, publishes the Talmud HaYerushalmi (the
Jerusalem Talmud) with its own unique commentary, "Or Leyasharim"
("Light to the Righteous") based on a comparative study of the Talmud
Yerushalmi with the Talmud Bavli. This commentary has received
accolades from Israel Chief Rabbi Mordechai Eliyahu and Israel Chief
Rabbi Avraham Shapira as well as other leading Rabbis.
"Machon HaYerushalmi is at the vanguard of the study of the
Talmud Yerushalmi. In writing the Or Leyasharim commentary, we research
Talmudic manuscripts as well as all parallel and related sources in
order to provide a fuller understanding of Halachic and Aggadic aspects
of the Oral Tradition throughout the ages in the Land of Israel and the
Lands of Exile," says Rav Davidh Bar-Hayim, Head of Machon Shilo.
"The Talmud Yerushalmi is a unique document representing the
wisdom of our forefathers in Erets Yisrael. As it says in Bereshit
Raba, 'There is no Torah like the Torah of Erets Yisrael and no wisdom
like the wisdom of Erets Yisrael.' We hope that this will be the first
of many events that will reacquaint the public with the hidden jewel
that is the Talmud Yerushalmi."
The seminar will take place with the participation of:
-
Rav Avraham Blass, Head of Machon HaYerushalmi
-
Rav Moshe Pinchuk, Head of Machon Doresh Tzion
-
Rav David Bar Hayim, Head of Machon Shilo and S'gan Av Beit Din of the nascent Sanhedrin
About Machon Shilo
Machon Shilo seeks to promote the study of the customs and
practices of the Jews in Erets Yisrael as practiced by our forefathers.
Machon Shilo believes that while the Jewish People have physically
returned to their ancestral homeland, Erets Yisrael, they have not yet
returned to the Torah of Erets Yisrael, only to the learning of Torah
in Erets Yisrael. For more information, visit www.machonshilo.org.
